May Evangeline Beebe, 86, of Battle Creek, Iowa, and formerly of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Willow Dalle Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa.
May was born May 1, 1917, at Decatur, Nebraska, the daughter of William Sanford and Bessie Ermina [sp] (Schook) Ramsey. She grew up in Monona and Woodbury Counties. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She married Roy Owen Beebe in 1936 at Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union three children were born, Roberta, Charlotte, and Roy.
May was a devoted housewife and mother. When her husband passed away in 1945 , she raised her family on her parents farm in Hornick, Iowa. She then moved her family to Onawa in 1949. For a short time, she cooked at the Ramar Restaurant in Onawa. After her children were grown, she moved to Newton and worked at the Maytag Hotel. Upon returning to Onawa, she took care of the elderly in their homes. May and her sister, Maxine, lived with and cared for their parents until their deaths. Later, May and Maxine enjoyed caring for May's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
May's health was failing and she entered Willow Dale Wellness Village in June 2001.
She is survived by her three children; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jane Ramsey of Onawa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 3 brothers, Leo, Arthur and William Ramsey; and 5 sisters, Hazel Holbrook, Esther Ralston, Elsie Johnson, Maxine Ramsey, and Adeline in infancy.
May will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor LeRoy Reynolds officiating.
Following the funeral, May was cremated.
