Esther Anderson, nurse
Esther Emily Anderson, 91, of Main Street, a retired registered nurse, died Tuesday at the Conway Retreat.
She was a state epidemiologist in Berkshire and Franklin Counties for many years before her retirement in 1967.
She was previously the Colrain district nurse, and had supervised the pharmacy and outpatient department at the former Pittsfield General Hospital.
Born in Ashfield, she was a graduate of Sanderson Academy there, and the former Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield. She lived in the city most of her life before moving here six years ago.
She was a member of First Congregational Church in Pittsfield, and a Red Cross volunteer.
She leaves her sister, Beda Langevin of Charlemont, with whom she lived, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted on the afternoon of Aug. 4 at Plain Cemetery in Ashfield. There are no calling hours.
