Roland G. Timian, son of Gustav Adolph and Adelena (Sueltz) Timian, was born on March 5, 1920 at Langdon Township, Cavalier County, ND. He grew up and was educated at Dresden.
He served in the US Navy from August 31, 1942 to December 12, 1945 as a radioman in the Pacific. He received his Bachelor and Master's Degrees from NDSU and did his Doctoral Studies at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.
He was united in marriage with Frances A. Newman on March 17, 1949 at St. Mary's Cathedral, Fargo, ND. He worked for the USDA as a plant pathologist at NDSU. As a researcher, he worked with many graduate students from throughout the world, including Mexico, China, Egypt, Pakistan and India.
He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fargo. Christ Jesus was the center of his life, he shared his faith through active involvement at numerous positions at his church, through service events in the United States and Mexico. Through "The Fixer Upper" Club at church, he could use his woodworking skills. He loved to travel, meet people, fish and garden. But more than anything, he loved to play with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances of Fargo; two sons, Steve (Tenar) of Sandpoint, ID and James of Fargo, ND; three daughters, Yvonne of Fargo, Carol of Sauk Centre, MN and Paulette (Kevin) Olson and their children, Matthew, Jonathan, Sarah and Rachel of Victoria, MN; two sisters, Violet (Ed) Dietz of Langdon, ND and Frances (Robert) Blake of Pillager, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Harold and Alvin and three sisters, Emily, Adeline Backes and Eleanora Timian.
Visitation: 5 to 7 PM, Sunday, August 18th at Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo, and for one hour before services at the church.
Prayer Service: 7 PM, Sunday at Hanson-Runsvold.
Funeral: 10:30 AM, Monday, August 19th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Graveside Service: 1 PM, Tuesday, August 20th at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Dresden, ND.
