An Oregon pioneer of 1842 who crossed the plains with her parents Andrew and Polly Smith. Family legend has it that Sioux Indians offered her father 20 horses for her on the Oregon Trail.
Jane married Pleasant Armstrong in 1845. He was killed in the Rouge River Indian War in 1853. The couple had no children.
