William Arthur Chappelear was born in New Lexngton, Ohio, in 1874, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chappelear.

When he was about one year of age, the family came to Illinois and located on a farm six miles southwest of Neoga, where Mr. Chappelear grew to manhood and where most of his life passed.

The 1880 U.S. Federal Census places William A. Chappelear [abt age 6] in Big Spring Township, Shelby County, Illinois with his parents, C.V. (Charles Vincent) and Caroline Chappelear. He was sharing the household with his 8 month old brother, Robert W. Chappelear.

He was united in marriage to Miss Maude Beals of Stewardson on January 31, 1897 in Shelby County, Illinois, USA.

WILLIAM CHAPPELEAR DIES

William Chappelear, a resident of the vicinity southwest of town for almost fifty years, passed away Sunday night at nine o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grace Peifer, in Beecher City. Mr. Chappelear had been a sufferer from leakage of the heart and dropsy for the past year, and for the past three months had been bedfast.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, in charge was Rev. John Hanley, pastor of the Church of Christ of Beecher City. Burial was in the Stewardson Cemetery.

William Arthur Chappelear was born in New Lexington, O., in 1874, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chappelear. When he was about one year of age, the family came to Illinois and located on a farm six miles southwest of Neoga, where Mr. Chappelear grew to manhood and where most of his life passed. He was united in marriage to Miss Maude Beals of Stewardson, who, with the daughter, Mrs. Peifer, survives. There also survives the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chappelear of Neoga, and one brother, Walter Chappelear of southwest of town, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Chappelear was a member of the Church of Christ and of the Modern Woodman Lodge.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chappelear and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chappelear went to Beecher City to attend the funeral. The widow, Mrs. Maude Chappelear, was unable, because of illness, to attend the burial services at Stewardson.

He was married to Maude Beals Jan. 30, 1897 and to this union was born one daughter Grace. He was a member of the Christian Church for 25 years but two years ago after seeing more light on the Scriptures he made his choice to walk in it and continued steadfast to the end.

He leaves to mourn his departure, a loving companion; a daughter, Mrs. F. E. Peifer; three grandsons, Archie, Ralph and William; his parents, one brother, Walter; other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were conducted at the home of the daughter Tuesday morning by John Handy. Interment was made in the Stewardson Cemetery."
