Sunday, January 14, at her home four miles north east of this city, Mrs Amelia Bastian died from the effects of a cancerous tumor. At the time of her death, she was in her sixty-first year.
Amelia's brother Adolph had immigrated from Germany, arriving September 26, 1872, settled in Waupaca County, Wisconsin and had later sent for the rest of the family. Amelia arrived in May of 1873 direct from Germany when a small child in company with her mother, Mrs Julia Anklam and a younger sisters Emma and Augusta.
On July 9, 1874 she was married to the late Joseph H Bastian and they lived "continuously on the homestead till his death fifteen years ago last December. Of this union four children were born; a daughter Anna, who died eighteen years ago at the age of seventeen; three sons, Adolph G of St Lawrence, and Gustav and Paul, who reside on the old homestead.
She is also survived by her aged mother Johanna Julianne "Pomrenke" Anklam - Schnell and one sister, Mrs (Augusta)John Stumpner of Poysippi and two brothers; Herman Anklam of Weyauwega and Adolph Anklam of Lind. The funeral was held at the house Wednesday at twelve o'clock, Rev A.T. Erickson officiating, and was largely attended by relatives and friends.
