Services for Selma Augusta Stewart, 75, of 4907 E. Roberts Lane, Nampa, who died Fri-day, July 8, at a Nampa hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Ronald J. McGilvra, pastor of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles E. Higgins, pastor of the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene.
Interment will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery. Services and interment are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
She was born Aug. 13, 1907, at Beaver County, Okla., to Ivar W. and Anna Marie Swan. She came to Idaho with her family in 1913 and they settled at Texas Ridge, near Deary, Idaho, where they farmed. She was reared and educated in Deary and later attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa.
She married the Rev. Burton R. Stewart on Feb. 8, 1941, at Troy, Idaho. Following their marriage they moved to Kellogg where they organized and pastored the Church of the Nazarene.
In 1944, they went to serve as missionaries among the Indian people for the Nazarene Church, serving in Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma. In 1949, they moved to Waitsburg, Wash., to pastor the Nazarene Church. In 1951, they returned to missionary work until 1953 when they moved back to Waitsburg where they pastored.
They retired in 1966 and came to Nampa. The Rev. Stewart died on Nov. 27, 1980, and she had resided in Nampa since. She was a member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Nampa and was active in the Nazarene Missionary Society.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. David (Judith L.) Bauerle, Nampa; one son, the Rev. James B. Stewart, Walnut Creek, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. George (Margaret) S. Evans, Nampa; four brothers, Nels Swan, Pinehurst, Idaho, Hilding Swan, Enaville, Idaho, Erland Swan, Spokane, Wash., and Agner Swan, Lewiston, Idaho; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nazarene Indian Bible College, in care of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 1423 2nd St. S., Nampa, Idaho 83651, or flowers may be sent.
