BUFFALO -- Graveside services for Josephine L. Mikesell, 90, of Buffalo, who died on April 17, 1989, at the Amie Holt Care Center, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Willow Grove Cemetery with Rev. Bob Miller officiating.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1899, in Ethel, Mo., to James and Mary Penland. She grew up and received her education in Missouri and in 1917 she moved to Wyoming where she taught at a country school near Sussex.

On Aug. 22, 1921, she married Farrand H. Mikesell in Sheridan where they made their home and Mr. Mikesell was in auto sales. They moved to Buffalo in 1937 where she worked in various businesses and at J.C. Penney for 15 years. Mrs. Mikesell retired in 1961 and she and her husband continued to live in Buffalo.

Mr. Mikesell died in May 1974 and she continued to live in Buffalo until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Union Congregational Church, and had played the organ and piano for the choir. Mrs. Mikesell enjoyed sewing, reading and walking.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Condit of Buffalo; one brother, William Penland of Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Laura S. Mikesell of Buffalo; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Visitation will be from 1 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Memorials to the Union Congregational Church or the Grey Ladies, in care of the Adams Funeral Home, which is in charge of all arrangements, would be appreciated.
