Former Resident Dies at Clearmont (contributed)

Mrs. Sarah E. Byxbe, formerly of Douglas passed away at her home in Clearmont, Wyo. on August 3. She was well known in and around Douglas several years ago, having come here from western Nebraska where she had taken a homestead. She moved into Douglas in 1913.

Mrs. Byxbe had been failing the past two years but her condition was not considered serious until two weeks ago when her son, Ivan, sent a telegram to his sisters, Mrs. Nevada Poirot and Mrs. Hattie Minnick, of Douglas, who immediately left for her bedside. They arrived about six hours before death came. Two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Jones of Centerville, Ia., and Mrs. Roxie Rousseau of Allerton, Ia., arrived later that afternoon.

Mrs. Byxbe passed away at 8 o'clock. All the children were at her bedside during the last hours, except one sister, Mrs. Sophronia Weston of Colorado.

Funeral services were conducted in the Community Chapel in Clearmont in charge of the Hintenburg Funeral Home of Buffalo. Interment was made in the G.A.R. plot in the Willow Glen cemetery, Buffalo.

Sarah Elizabeth Cresey was born January 2, 1854 in Indiana. When two years old she moved to Missouri, near Unionville, to a homestead with her parents. In 1873 she was married to William Richard Byxbe and lived in Wayne county, Iowa. To this union were born 11 children, two of them dying when infants.

Her husband preceded her in death. In September, 1903 and in 1906 she moved to western Nebraska, homesteading there until 1913 when she moved to Douglas. She lived in Douglas several years and then settled in Clearmont.

She had a host of friends wherever she lived. She joined the Christian church when a young woman and tried to live a Christian life. At the time of her death she was 87 years, seven months and one day old.

She leaves to mourn her loss nine children, 29 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
