Mary Imogene (Mathews) Jones

DENISON - Mary Imogene Mathews Jones, 87, passed from this life Monday, December 31, 2012.

Mrs. Jones was born March 3, 1925, in Nolan County, Sweetwater, the daughter of Roy Ellis and Mary Alpha( Gray) Mathews. Imogene grew up on the family dairy, and helped with the family furniture store in Sweetwater. She graduated from Sweetwater High School and attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene. She married Walter Carroll Jones from Roscoe on August 1, 1945. He was serving in the Navy. They lived in Sweetwater, Odessa, Kermit, and Roscoe raising five sons. She was a loving mother and wife who served as a Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school aide in the Church of Christ, worked in a Sweetwater day care and Roscoe Flower Shop. She also loved to bake and sew. Her mission in life was to serve others and she raised her sons to be caring, thoughtful, and loving.

She is survived by five sons, Donald Lee Jones of Colleyville, David Carroll Jones, MD of Granite Bay, Calif., James (Jim) Paul Jones of Denison, erry Keith Jones and Jeffery (Jeff) Pat Jones of Denver, Colo. Although she loved her boys, she always wanted girls and finally got her wish with daughters-in-law, Ruth-Ann Jones, Marjorie Jones, Madelyn Jones, Earlene Jones, Sabrina Jones, and Deborah Jones. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren: James Paul Jones ll of Rio Vista, David Alexander (Alex) Jones, Samantha Jones, and Christopher Adams of Granite Bay, Calif., James Brian Jones of Austin, Brandie Lovette Jones of Denison, Jennie Hillier of Lantana, Donald Mathew Jones of Colleyville, Jase Kristopher Jones of Denver, Colo., Nicholas Jones of Sherman, and Jerrod Heith Jones of Denison; and eleven great-grandchildren,Hunter Lee Hillier, Emma Claire Hillier, Waykaya Ann Jones, William Mathew Jones, Kailani Moriah Jones, Austin Blaine Jones, James Paul Jones III, Cloe Horner, Adyn Jones, Jaedyn Jones, and Avery Grace Jones, sister, Francis Hynum of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother Billy Roy (Bill) Mathews of Sweetwater, and several generations of nieces, nephews and friends.

Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Jones, her brother, Charles Mathews, and sister, Juanita Louise (Nita) Clayton. Her extended family is pleased that she has joined those she loved so dearly in heaven.

Graveside service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Roscoe Cemetery, outside Roscoe. Flowers can be sent to the Roscoe Flower Shop.
