Ford T. Rowland, 101, of Ashland passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 1, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born on June 12, 1911, in Huntington Township in Lorain County to Samuel C. and Lepha E. (née Sage) Rowland.

Ford married the former Donna I. Walker on Oct. 6, 1937, at her parent's home near Nova.

He was a farmer most of his life. After retiring from farming, Ford went on to work for Ashland College for 16 years as a custodian until his retirement in 1981.

Ford was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church. In recent years, he attended Grace Brethren Church, where he was member of the Builders A.B.F. class. Ford loved working in his yard and his neighbors' yards, but most of all, he loved his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Claudia (Tom) McClerren of Holly, Mich., and Diane (Jerry) Rife of Ashland; six grandchildren, Pam (Doug) Kinsey of Ashland, Teresa (Brad) Browne of Ashland, Mindie (Dominick) Villani of Liberty Township, Matthew (Courtney) McClerren of Michigan, David (Denise) McClerren of Michigan, and Mary (Tim) Rolling of Tennessee; 15 great-grandchildren, Cassie Hicks; Gabe, Zack and Carly Miller; Ashley Browne; Evan, Jake and Kylie Villani; Mallory, Madeline and Maura McClerren; and Kyle, Cait and Kelsie Rolling.

Ford was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Donna I. Rowland; one sister, Gertrude Landis; and one brother, Kenton Rowland.

Funeral services will take place noon Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with the Rev. Norm Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Nova Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
