Harley "Bud" Lavan Walker Jr., 62, of LaBelle, Mo., passed away Thursday Dec. 27, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.


Bud was born on Jun 6th, 1950 in Bucklin, Mo., and raised in Princeton, Iowa. After high school he enlisted in the army where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and served in the 69th Engineer Battalion during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Parachute Badge, the Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation Medal. On Aug. 22, 1970 Bud was united in marriage with Valerie "Lynn" Jewell in Bettendorf, Iowa. The family moved in Missouri in 1976, where he resided until passing.


Bud is survived by his wife, Lynn; his children, Scott (Gina) Walker of Columbia, Mo., Eric (Amy) Walker of Edwardsville, Ill., Jesse (Amy) walker of Knox City, Mo., Emily (Chad) Odgers of Tiffin, Iowa, and Vanessa Walker of Quincy, Ill.; his grandchildren, Jesse Lance, Brandon, Shelby, Anna, Jenna, Ava, Summer, Margaret, Cole, John, Luke, and Jason; siblings, Barbara (Tom) Gray, Patricia Walker, Linda (Mike) Cameron, and Steve Walker; step-mother, Patricia Walker; aunts, Mary West and Sally Walker; and numerous brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley L. Walker Sr. and Winnie P. (McHale) Walker; cousins, Mike West and Jason West.


Graveside inurnment services with full military honors were held on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. A reception in celebration of his life will follow immediately afterward at the family residence in LaBelle.
