The Work Of Death.
Daniel T. Lakin.
Passed away this morning at 4 o'clock at his residence on West Church street, after a brief illness of dysentery, Daniel T. Lakin, aged 48 years and five months. Another familiar form is gone whose bright, cheery face will be missed in social and public circles. A man who by his integrity of character, affable disposition and general walk in life has always commanded the esteem of the community. Faithful in the discharge of all duties, firm in his friendship and devoted to the family circle, his death removes a useful citizen, a loving husband, friend and brother Many a tear wil be shed to the memory of Daniel T. Lakin, and all over this county, where he was so well known, sympathy will go out to the bereaved ones. Amongst the scholastic fraternity no man was more popular; ever sympathetic in all the trials that beset the public school teacher, a wise counsellor and firm friend. his associates can truly say, a good man has gone home, and his record is one worthy of emulation.
Daniel Thomas Lakin was born near Jefferson, this county, March 8, 1842, his paternal ancestors being among the earliest settlers His father was Abraham Lakin and his mother Elizabeth Gross, who was descended from the well-known Cost family of Virginia. In all offices of public trust, which embraced a period of twenty years,he was noted for his great fidelity to every office to which he was called He was a staunch Democrat, a member of the Reformed church and one of the consistory He married about four years ago Miss Rachel Ropp, of Virginia, who survives him
