Rebecca Faye Cooley, 91, wife of former Muncie Mayor Paul Cooley, died early Wednesday morning in Waters of Yorktown following a brief illness.
She was born in Muncie the daughter of Harry Patrick and Hallie Mae (Wood) Leyland, graduated from Eaton High School, class of 1932, and spent most of her life in this area.
Mrs. Cooley at one time was employed with Warner Gear Credit Union and with the Center Township Assessor's office. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mother's Study Club, and Omega Nu Tau, Beta Chapter.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Paul J. Cooley; her son, Dr. P. Phillip Cooley (wife-Carolyn); four grandchildren, Sydney, Patrick, and Courtney Cooley, and Ashley Heintzen; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jayne Correll.
Her sister, Dorothy Leyland, preceded her in death.
Services will be held in First Baptist Church 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Dr. William W. Noblitt officiating. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from 6-8 p.m. Friday or at the church one half hour prior to service time on Saturday.
