COLUMBUS HOBBS DEAD

Well Known Citizen, Ill Since Last December, Passes Away.

Columbus Hobbs, 68, died at his home at 1625 South P street last night at 10:15 o'clock after an illness dating back to last December when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He was a highly esteemed citizen and had made many friends in Elwood since coming here from Streator, Ill. eight years ago.

Mr. Hobbs was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hobbs and born March _, 1854. He was twice married, the second time to Addie O'Brien, in 1898. The widow and two children by this marriage survive. The children are: Mrs. D. Castor, of this city and Miss Garnet Hobbs, at home.

Three of his children by a former marriage also survive. They are Mrs. Laura Gallman, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mrs. Mary Smith, of Mercer, North Dakota, and Mrs. Ethel Holtslaw, of Dayton, Ohio. Sam Hobbs of this city is a brother, and Mrs. Sarah Fouch, of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Gus Dellinger, of the Hobbs neighborhood, sisters. There are eight grandchildren.

The funeral services will be conducted at his late residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Polly Couch and the burial will be in the city cemetery.
