ASHTON, May 18 – Funeral services for Rawlston John Porter, whose body was found May 12 in a small creak near Ashton, were held Monday at the LDS church.
Milton Hansen, Fremont county coroner, has set an inquest into the cause of death for Friday night.
The opening prayer was by Stanley Clark, Sr. and the benediction by Edgar O. Westerberg. Bishop Thomas A. Murdoch gave the obituary. Speakers were Orlando Gooch and Russ Egbert. Music included solo, "Not Understood" Mildred Brower, accompanied by Ruth Murdoch; organ solo, "In The Garden,' Ruth Murdoch; song, "Near to the Heart of God," Veda Kidd and Madge Reynolds, accompanied by Ruth Murdoch. Aaron B. Porter dedicated the grave.
He was born September 27, 1889, at Centerville, Utah, the son of Aaron B, and Rebecca Poole Porter.
At the age of ten the family moved to Rexburg and settled on a farm four miles west of Rexburg. He attended the Rexburg public schools and also Ricks academy, as it was known at that time.
In 1914, "Ross" as all his friends knew him, moved to Ashton with his brother Milt and family, and they homesteaded a claim in Squirrel Meadows, where Ross has always lived.
He never married but always made his home with his brother until he moved to Portland, eight years ago.
Three brothers and five sisters survive him.
