His records indicate he was a POW and was wounded during the Civil War.

The 1890 Vet's census states he was a prisoner at Salisbury for 3 months.

He enlisted in Co D, Mass 2nd Inf Regt on May 25, 1861;
Mustered out June 12, 1865 at Annapolis, MD.


Application for his government headstone was made by Mrs. Marion E. Gray on Sept 20, 1934. It indicates that his military records use the name "Danforth Shattuck". He was a private in Co D, 2nd Mass Vol Inf.
