Lula was David's first wife and mother of all his children. Her father was founder of D. W. Alderman & Sons lumber business near Manning, S. C. & founder of the town of Alcolu, S. C. She never was able to get over the war death of her son, Ervin David Shaw (for whom Shaw AFB is named); and the family always said she just died later of a broken heart.
