After his death, the Altamont Enterprise reported that on Monday December 15th James A. Wright administrator of Ethan's estate would sell various livestock, farm implements, machinery, blacksmith tools and household goods from his residence described as 8 miles south of the village Berne. The auctioneer was to be C. W. Schoonmaker. The sale of his estate was also listed in the Slingerlands Bulletin as follows:
