Emigrated to the US in 1883. Farmed in Pembina County North Dakota for many years. He married Esther Ryan Cook in 1894 and they had ten children. Following the death of Esther in 1924, he remarried a woman from Manitoba, Canada, where he lived, and had numerous children with her. Thomas Cook, Sr. divided his time between Canada and North Dakota. He died in 1947 while visiting his farm in Neche, Pembina County, North Dakota that under the doctrine of primogenitur, he had entrusted to his oldest son, John Cook.
