Carlos Lee Swafford, age 92, went home to the Lord on Thursday, December 27. Carlos was a proud, fiercely independent man, "Why, I can fix that myself", hilariously funny, head-over-heals in love with his wife of 71 ½ years, a beloved father and a card carry member of "The Greatest Generation". He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and entertained his caregivers constantly by singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." He retired from Alcoa Inc. with over 30 years of service.

He is survived by his beautiful bride Marjorie, his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Howard Hutchinson, and their children and spouses, Dan and Susan Hutchinson, Rodney and Belinda Hutchinson, and Kristi and John Hood, son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Jenny Swafford, their children and spouses, Emily and Will Yancey and Erin and Nathan Hill, and youngest daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Steve Marsh, and their children and spouses, Stephanie Marsh, Micah and Ashley Marsh, and Jared and Tabitha Marsh. Their 16 great grandchildren, each of whom was known to Carlos as "Little Girl" or "Little Boy", will greatly miss their "Papaw".

He is joined in heaven by his second daughter, Diane, who has been patiently waiting for her Daddy for five years (We miss you, too, Sweetie). Carlos is the son of the late Oscar and Mollie Swafford of McMinn County. The family is extremely appreciative of the tender loving care provided by all of his caregivers including Tabitha, Gail, Peggy, Sandy, Randal, Diana, Robb, Lisa and Diane and, of course, all the family members, especially granddaughter Haylee Marsh, friends and neighbors who visited, brought food and helped out. You folks are just an unbelievable blessing.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 on Sunday, December 30, 2012 with funeral service at 3:30 in Smith Trinity Chapel with Reverend Bill Shelton and Reverend Billy Carrigan. Entombment will follow at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
