Captain Davenport was originally buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery but then all the interments were moved to Cypress Lawn. Note that his wife and a couple of sons are buried at Soquel Cemetery in Soquel, Santa Cruz Co., CA.

See below from a kind researcher named Jerry Larsen who finally set me straight:

The book "Davenports In America" which was published by a family organization in 1962, has a section on John Pope Davenport and his descendants. If you are descended from him, you ought to obtain a copy of this book. I don't believe it's on-line, but I know that the SLC Family History Center has a copy. The narrative on page 38 shows:

"Captain Davenport next took up residence in Santa Cruz, where he served as Justice of the Peace for several years. He was also Deputy Coroner. Later he was engaged in the real estate business until he passed away February 12, 1892, of consumption at the age of seventy-four years. His funeral services were held at the family residence, 560 18th Street, near Guerrero, and the body was interred in the Laurel Hill Cemetery."

Guerrero is a street in San Francisco, and 18th does intersect it. There was a Laurel Hill Cemetery in San Francisco, but it is now defunct and the remains were moved to other locations. Findagrave.com has information about this:

"In 1892, the cemetery was forced out of San Francisco and the thirty five thousand (35,000) buried at Laurel Hill were moved to Cypress Lawn in Daly City. In doing so San Francisco relinquished a part of its own history for those buried at Laurel Hill during the second half of the nineteenth century, beginning in 1854, were true pioneers of the early West and although some had been moved individually by their families earlier, most were ultimately buried in vaults under a grass-covered mound that bears a memorial to their achievements. In June of 1901 an unknown number of bodies from Laurel Hill were moved to the Japanese Cemetery in Colma. In 1901 an unknown number of bodies were moved from Laurel Hill Cemetery in San Francisco were moved to the Serbian Cemetery in Colma. Final and complete removal of all remains at San Francisco's Laurel Hill Cemetery began in 1939."

So it appears that John P.'s remains may have been moved shortly after he was buried there, or in one of the later moves.Captain John Pope Davenport was the founder of Davenport, California aka Davenport Landing. He was born in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island. He lived in the 1st Brick House in Monterey, California. He married Ellen Clark (Smith) born Feb 25, 1835 of Fairhaven, Bristol, Massachusetts, died: Jan 27, 1922.

The Davenports, Smiths, Clark families are all inner-related through marriages within the lineage. John Pope Davenport was related to my Great-Great-Great-Grandmother Martha Elizabeth Davenport sp. (Revolutionary War Soldier) Claiborne Davenport. The Early Davenports can be found throughout many parts of the USA - Massachusetts, Virginia and Tennessee. They are Traced all the way back to ENGLAND where they originated before America. The Smiths, Clarks are found up in Tazewell, Tennessee, Claiborne County and also in Colonial Jamestown, Virginia. ALL these branches sooner or later tie-into-one another.

Also to note one was born in Hollister, California, San Benito County near San Juan Bautista that borders Monterey County. One spent many years in (nearby) Santa Cruz County and would to to (Davenport Cove) and the Town. The area is pristine with beauty. Also the Soquel Cemetery one went to where some of the Davenports of this lineage are buried within Santa Cruz County.
