She was united in marriage to Albert Backman February 26th, 1902 at Westmark, Nebr. They started farming a few miles northwest of Frankfort; later moving to Frankfort. They lived many years in the Settlement where they reared their children and moved to Vliets when retiring from the farm. Ten children were born to this union.
Her husband and sons, Donald and Willard preceded her in death.
Surviving children are: Wallace of Home City; Mrs. Martha Kirk of Concordia; Paul, Mrs. Nellie Claussen, Mrs. Doris Iverson, Mrs, Thora Karlan, all of Topeka; Mrs Ruby Treischman and John Backman of Los Angeles. Eighteen grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Mrs. Backman, lived a life of simple trust in her Saviour, was a good mother, always unsparing of herself and sympathetic of others in their trouble and sorrow. In later years she longed to go Home to be with her Lord. Quoting Cor. 5:8 in her last illness, she often said she was: "Willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."
Funeral services were held at the Covenant Mission Church, Tuesday, October 21st at two o'clock. Many friends gathered for the last rites of this fine friend. The floral tribute was large, a silent testimony of her many friends. Rev. D. Elroy Anderson of the Mission Church preached the funeral sermon. Then men's quartet and Mrs. Ewald Lofdahl sang. Pallbearers were: Virgil Johnson, Albert Erickson, Eugene Lofdahl, Edolf Anderson, Oscar W. Olson and Elmer Lofdahl. Burial was beside her husband in the church cemetery. Peace be to her kind memory.
