Jacob Abraham Rosenbloom was born 1889 in Lithuania, then part of Russia, one of 7 known surviving children born to Israel Rosenbloom & Leah Namkin. The family immigrated to America in 1900 and his parents settled into the thriving Jewish community in Baltimore where his father became proprietor of a notions store (Notions stores generally sold sewing supplies to the retail market).

Jacob struck out at an early age to make his name in the world, and by age 20 had already arrived in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, NC, where he formed a business partnership with brothers Jacob (Jake) and Samuel Levy (possibly a relative) of Russia. The young men opened a ready-made clothing store in Tarboro called ROSENBLOOM & LEVY'S, that would continue to thrive and grow until the latter part of the 20th century. (The flagship store was on Main Street in Rocky Mount.) The store was a landmark building at 143 SW Main Street in the busy downtown business district of Rocky Mount, and the company would eventually branch out adding stores to the Tarrytown Mall, which was destroyed during Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

By 1920, Jacob had removed to Rocky Mount where he ran the Rosenbloom-Levy concern, and where he would marry local girl, Minnie Ruth Moore, daughter of Luke Moore of Edgecombe County, who converted to Judiasm upon their marriage. They would become parents to 5 known surviving children.

Jake Rosenbloom died in 1971 at age 81. His wife of some 50+ years died ten years later in 1981 at age 87.

Jacob's eldest son Robert Luke Rosenbloom (1920-1943), a graduate of UNC, was a First Lieutenant with the 36th Figher Squadron, 8th Fighter Group of the US Army Force, was killed during WW-II and is buried in Hawaii. Bobbie Rosenbloom entered UNC in 1938 and was enrolled through 1940, when he transferred to New York University. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1942 and went to the Southwest Pacific Theater in December 1942. He was a member of the 36th Fighter Squadron of the 8th Fighter Group, supporting the Allies in the Solomon Islands and New Guinea areas. He flew the P-39Q, which, while not much of a fighter, was a first-rate ground attack plane, armed with four .50 caliber machine guns and one 37mm cannon. On Oct. 1, 1943, Rosenbloom was awarded the Air Medal for "having participated in 25 operational flight missions in the course of which strafing and bombing attacks were made from dangerously low altitudes." Robert Luke Rosenbloom was killed in action 17 days later.
