John Ammon Gentzler was born on December 29, 1871, to the proud parents John Arthur and Margaret Ketterman Gentzler. John was the 3rd out of 11 children born to the couple. His siblings include Dillie, William, Alice, Annie, Himan, Maggie, Jesse, George, Bayard, and Chauncey Gentzler ( Bayard's twin brother). He also had a half-sibling Pertida who died in 1871.

John met and married Sarah Ann Klinedinst. They married on November 13, 1898. They had 5 children together, Orval, Stuart, Margaret, Paul Eugene, Alene, and Bruce E. Gentzler.
John worked at a Tobacco Factory as a cigar maker.
Sadly, John died on September 30, 1913. He died at the age of 41 years, 9 month, and 1 day. John died from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He was buried on October 4, 1913, in the Saint Paul Union Cemetery.
