Will Woods Dies in Biloxi; Burial Here

Will Woods, World War I Veteran, former resident of Houston and prominently known to the banking profession of Mississippi, died at 5:45 Wednesday morning in Biloxi, Miss., following a brief illness. He was 53 years old.

A native of McLemoresville, Tenn., Mr. Woods was the second son of the late W D Woods and Mrs. Josie Smith Woods. He moved to Houston with his parents when a small boy and attended the public school. Later he went to Blue Mountain Heights Academy, after which he took a business course in Nashville, Tenn.

His first job was with the firm of Bervard-Woods. When war was declared against Germany in 1917 he enlisted and saw service abroad. Upon his return he worked for the Houston Hardware Company and later for the Bank of Houston. January 20, 1920, he was married to Miss Lula Kate Ashby of Van Vleet. He united with the Christian church when a young boy.

For the past twenty years they had made their home in Charleston, Miss., where until July he was connected with the Grenada Bank. Since then he has been with the State Banking Department. It was a business strip for the department that took him to South Mississippi, ten days ago, from which he did not return, suffering a stroke of paralysis Monday while working in one of the banks.

His wife, upon receipt of the message, hurried to his bedside, being joined in Jackson Monday night be Ben Woods of Houston. They realized the seriousness of his condition upon their arrival and son notified the member of the family here late Tuesday night. Except to them, however, the news of his death early Wednesday came as a shock to his friends.

Funeral arrangements are uncomplete, pending the arrival of his only son, Lt. Will Woods, bombardier with the Ari Corps in Greenville, S C.

The body will be carried to Charleston sometime today, it is understood for the funeral service and will be brought to Houston for interment in the Houston cemetery.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves a daughter, Katherine of Charleston, and three brothers, Buford and Ben of Houston and Leon Woods of Tahlequa, Okla.
