JOSEPH BANFIELD KILLED EARLY TODAY IN AUTO ACCIDENT

Joseph Vinton Banfield, 21, of Jeisyville was instantly killed at 1:45 a.m. this morning when the automobile of Fred J. Clark 29, also of Jeisyville, plunged down a 30 foot embankment near the Kincaid Lake site on Route 104, about four and a half miles northwest of this city.
Tire marks on the shoulder of the highway showed the car was traveling toward Taylorville, left the highway on the right side of the slab, careened back across the paving to the left side. It clipped off three guard posts and plunged over the steep embankment, overturning several times. Banfield's body was found about 15 feet from the wreck automobile, by Harry Potts, who resides near the accident scene, who heard the crash. Death apparently was caused by severe head injuries. Clark was brought to the hospital for treatment, but was able to go home at 9:30 o'clock this morning.
Deputy Coroner Benjamin Boyd will conduct and inquest into Banfield's death at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon, his office is in the courthouse.
