Former Senator John W. Russell of Fairfax, Virginia passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 24, 2012.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth Marie Russell and his three brothers. John is survived by his two daughters Kathy Russell and Robyn Marshall (Brad), his granddaughter Heather whom he loved dearly and his two sisters.

He will also be missed by many other relatives and friends.

John was retired from the Department of Defense where he worked as an Intelligence Officer. During his life John also served his community as Fairfax City Councilman, Fairfax City Mayor and as a State Senator of Virginia. John was a long standing member of the Fairfax U.M.C., he was a Mason, a member of the Optimist Club and the American Legion.

A Gathering will be held at the Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22030 on Monday, December 31, 2012 from 11;00 a.m. until 1;00 p.m. where a Celebration of his life will take place at 1;00 p.m. Interment will follow at Fairfax City Cemetery.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Senator Russell's name to a charity of your choice.
