PORTAGE - Norma L. Armson, 82, a lifelong resident of Portage, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena after a long battle with cancer.

Norma was born May 9, 1928, to Bennett E. and Ida Dora Mathilda Hendrickson Cowles. She had worked for 27 years as a secretary for the Portage school system. Norma was a lifelong member of Portage United Methodist Church, and a member of Wauona Trail Women's Club and United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her five sons, Bill (Michelle) Armson of Foresthill, Calif., Gary (Joann) Armson of Portage, Ron (Sue) Armson of Jackson, Don Armson of Port Washington, and Jim (Toni) Armson of Oxford; her sister, Dorothy (Floyd) Loomis of Portage; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) Dyer of Oak Creek, Stephanie Armson of Madison, Matt Armson of Madison, Ryan Armson of Portage and Nicole Armson of Oxford; two great-grandsons, Liam, son of Jennifer and Craig Dyer, and Aiden, son of Nicole Armson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; her sister, Lucille Rosenthal; and her brother-in-law, Gene Rosenthal.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Portage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Countryman officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Portage United Methodist Church and Columbia Health Care Center.
