Mr. James Lee Brooks, son of the late Rev. James A. Brooks and Goldie Hunt Brooks, was born in Franklin County on June 13, 1923 and entered into eternal rest on September 18, 1992 at the Franklin Regional Medical Center.

James was educated in the public schools of Franklin County. He served in the United States Army during WWII and received an Honorable Discharge in 1947. He was also a member of the Thrifty Sons Lodge No. 284.

He joined the Concord Baptist Church at an early age and was a very dedicated member. He served as a Deacon, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Church Clerk, President of the Usher Board, President of the B.T.U. and member of the senior gospel and male choirs. He also served as Treasurer of the Minister-Deacons Union and the North Central Usher Convention.

He was united in holy matrimony to Miss Euralee Allen, a loving and devoted wife, and to this union four children were born. Daxter R. Brooks of Kittrell, NC, James O. Brooks of Raleigh, NC, Cynthia B. Joyner of Wake Forest, NC and Stanley A. Brooks of Newark, Delaware.

Other survivors include: daughters, Mrs. Shirlene A. Perry of Franklinton, NC, Mrs. Emma Hobbs of Kittrell, NC and Ms. Mammie Holden of Henderson, NC; a son, William Holden of Kittrell, NC; one brother, Curtis Brooks of Philadelphia; five sisters, Ms. Edith Brooks, Mrs. Delphine Mason, Ms. Dorothy Brooks, Mrs. Patty Hawkins and Ms. Laura Brooks, all of Philadelphia; ten grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Milton Perry of Franklinton, NC and Sylvester Joyner of Wake Forest, NC; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Betty Brooks of Kittrell, NC and Mrs. LaVerne Brooks of Raleigh, NC; a special brotherly friend, Mr. John Norman Kearney of Henderson, NC; three brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; five aunts; a number of nieces, nephews, and a multitude of relatives and friends.
