Eugene Alfred "Gene" Setzkorn died, Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Via Christi Village. He was 95. Eugene was born to Theodore Henry and Wilhelmina (Boger) Setzkorn on November 14, 1917 on the family farm north of Dodge City, Kansas.

He graduated from Dodge City High School in 1936, attended St. John's Lutheran and Southwestern Colleges in Winfield, KS and received his Masters Degree in Chemistry from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. A World War II veteran, Eugene served in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged from the US Army in February of 1946.

Eugene married Audrey McKee in 1941, and to their union were born three daughters. In 1954, the family moved from Peoria, Illinois, to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where Gene went to work for Continental Oil Company as a research chemist. His skill and talent in his field were remarkable and remembered well by those who knew him. Shortly before he retired, he was named a Fellow in the American Society of Testing and Materials, in recognition of decades of contributions to his field.

Gene grew up in a farming community surrounded by parents, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. St. Michael's Lutheran church, where he was baptized and confirmed, played a central and important role in their lives.

Eugene married Patricia Skidmore at First Lutheran in the summer of 1972. Gene, Pat and the entire family spent many happy hours fishing, hiking, playing games, and relaxing at their lake cabin in Kansas. Family was very important to him and he delighted in his children and grandchildren. As the loving patriarch of his extended family, Gene's devotion to his family is something we will always cherish.

Eugene is survived by his wife Pat Setzkorn, daughters; Karen Musselman and her husband Gene, of Hernando, Florida; Margene Osgood, and Lynette Setzkorn-Cly of Tulsa; Stepson, Jake Skidmore and his wife Nancy, of Norcross, Georgia; Five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leona Bevers; brother, William Setzkorn; great-granddaughter, Teera Corbett; and son-in-law, Mike Cly.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at First Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mike Gallagher, officiating. Burial will then follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
