SYCAMORE – Russell A. Swanson, 83, of Sycamore, Ill., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Aug. 3, 1929, in Sycamore, to Oscar and Anna (Peterson) Swanson, he married Betty E. Carlson on Sept. 28, 1952, at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.
Russell was owner and operator of Swanson Excavating for more than 50 years. He was a regular at Parkway Restaurant where he enjoyed socializing with friends. He was a member of the Sycamore Moose Lodge and Salem Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Adele Swanson and Lonnie (Rocio) Swanson, both of Sycamore; grandchildren, Kristi (Tim) Rissman of DeKalb, Haylee Henke of Sycamore, Devon (fiance, Josh) Swanson of Rochelle, Derek (companion, Stephanie) Swanson of Rochelle and Arianny Swanson of Sycamore; great-grandchildren, Kyla and Dean Rissman and Bentley Russell Swanson; siblings, Grace Niemaczyk of Sycamore and Clarence (Frances) Swanson of Cherry Valley; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his most loving companion, his dog, "Yorkie."
Russell was preceded in death by his wife in 1991; sisters, Pearl (Alvin) Hetland and Ruth (Willis) Garman; and brother-in-law, Edward "Bud" Niemczyk.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Olson Funeral and Cremation Services, Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178, with the Rev. Robert C. Kinnear officiating. Burial will be at Charter Grove Cemetery near Sycamore. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:15 a.m. before the service.
Donations can be made to the family for a memorial to be established.
