Rebecca's first husband was Pvt. George Washington West (1830-1864) who died in Virginia fighting for Ohio in the Union Army in the Civil War. George fought for Co. G, 149th Ohio Infantry. George and Rebecca were married on June 24, 1854 in Clinton County, Ohio and they had five children together: Theodore, William, Sarah, Elizabeth and Georgianna "Georgie" West. Theodore, William and Sarah all died in 1861. Rebecca's youngest daughter, Georgie, was born a few weeks after George died.
Rebecca's second husband also fought for the Union Army from Ohio. Charles Challender fought for Co. H, 27th Ohio Infantry. Rebecca and Charles had three children together: Marilla Genevia "Rilla" (Challender) Price, Rebecca Ann "Annie" (Challender) Betterton and James Squire Challender.
