His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, with the Rev. Tom Kreiger officiating. Burial will be in Avoca Township Cemetery, rural Fairbury, with full military rites conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts of Fairbury. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the memorial home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
Wayne was born July 25, 1926, in Carmi, the son of William and Wavie Barbre Sanders.
He married Mary Ellen Mehrings on June 20, 1948, in Fairbury. She survives Other survivors include two children, Terry Lee Sanders and Brenda Sue (Robert) Murray; two brothers, James Sander and Albert Sanders; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; two brothers, Verne and Vendell Sanders and one grandson, Mike Murray.
Wayne served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 54 and VFW Post 9789, both of Fairbury. He belonged to the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge of Bloomington. Wayne was an avid Cubs fan and was named Prairie Central Hawks "Fan of the Year" for 1994-1995. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
