HYRUM – Verl B Garrett, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his home.

He was born November 2, 1926 in Nephi, Utah the son of Brigham Floyd and Norma Blackett Garrett.

Verl married Lucile Hoopes on March 7, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Verl served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was an active member of the LDS Church serving a Northern State Mission as a young man and later with his wife in Winnipeg, Canada. He worked for eight years with his wife in the Ogden Temple and enjoyed the many years he taught Gospel Doctrine.

He had served as a member of the Clearfield City Council.

Verl was a master at gardening, making and refinishing furniture.

Surviving are his wife, four sons, Jeff (Julie), Steve (Storme), Brad (Paula), Dean (Angie), two daughters, Roberta (Bruce) Bishop, Shirley (Greg) Stuart, 34 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, four brothers, Kenneth, Marcus, Richard, Mike and sister Bonnie Smith.

Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jack, Carl and Clyde.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse Sandridge Ward 2679 So. 1000 W., Syracuse. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
