Producer, director and writer. Born Gerald Alexander Abrahams, he was very famous directing futuristic television programs, where the characters were marionettes modified by a process called "Supermarionation", who merely combine the words "super", "marionette" and "animation". From 1957 to 1958 he produced the children's television series "The Adventures of Twizzle", in 1962 "Supercar" and in 1965 he made his most famous and successful production: "Thunderbirds", which became a children's cult sci-fi series, from 1965 to 1970. The following success of productions with real actors, in the seventies, with its ancient and very successful partnership with ITC (Incorporated Television Company), of Lew Grade was the series "Space: 1999" starred by Martin Landau and Barbara Bain. He was also the creator of other series like "Joe 90 puppet superhero", "Stingray", "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons", "UFO" and "Fireball XL5". In 2001 he was appointed an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire). During his last years, he and his son Jamie, had become active supporters of Britain's Alzheimer's Society, dedicated to spread the reality of the terrible disease that he suffered.


Cause of death: Alzheimer's disease.
