John Carr Lofgreen, age 76, loving, generous, and accommodating husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, returned to his Heavenly Father December 25, 2012, at his home in Morgan, Utah from complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
He was born March 7, 1936, to Louis Grant and Beatrice Carr Lofgreen in Ogden, Utah. On September 13, 1961, he was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple to Marilyn Anderson by President Harold B. Lee.
Carr-the name by which most knew him-attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1954. He received his Associate of Science Degree from Weber College and then his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management from Utah State University in 1958. He furthered his education at Brigham Young University by gaining a Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance in 1968.
Carr began his career with the Utah Department of Employment Security (Workforce Services) retiring in May of 1991, after 31 years of service. He also served as a military policeman in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for many years. After his retirement, John Carr began driving a school bus for the Morgan School District. His decision to drive a bus began when his two grandchildren attended school in Morgan. Traveling with the ball teams for Morgan High School became one of his greatest joys.
He was active in the Ogden and Morgan communities and especially at Weber State University. He was a student body officer when Weber State was Weber College. He was on the Weber State University (WSU) Centennial Gift Campaign from 1987-1989. He served as President of the Weber State University Alumni Association and was a member of the Institutional Council from 1987-1988. Carr was the official scorekeeper for the Weber State University Wildcat basketball team for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Weber State Wildcat Club.
John Carr was a member of the Ogden Executive's Association and was president and also served as secretary of this association. He loved and appreciated the members of this association for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Ogden Kiwanis Club. Carr was instrumental in the founding of the Sheltered Workshop, which later became Enable Industries. In Morgan, Carr served as the co-chairman of the Morgan Centennial Celebration, and was instrumental in bringing forth the new Morgan County Library.
John Carr was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a High Priest in his ward. He served as a Second Counselor in the Bishopric of the 53rd ward in Ogden. He served in the Morgan Stake Sunday School Presidency. He was the Morgan North Stake Executive Secretary serving under the direction of President Robert W. Poll. He served as the ward Finance Clerk, Priesthood Advisor, as well as a faithful Home Teacher.
Carr had a great love for his family and made sure they were his first concern. "Carr" was a fitting nickname since one of his greatest joys was to get in his vehicle and drive all day. He enjoyed playing softball, camping, reading and watching World War II history, but most importantly, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 51 joyous years; two daughters, Shelly Perez (Daniel) of Morgan and Lynette Lofgreen of Phoenix, Arizona; and foster daughter, Virginia Charles of New Mexico. He leaves two grandchildren, Joseph Reyna (Sadie) and Rebecca Perez; and two great-grandchildren, William Carr and Dexter Joseph Reyna. John Carr is also survived by his brother, G. Val Lofgreen (Karen) of Ogden.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the Morgan North Stake Center, 2755 W. Old Highway Road Morgan, Utah, at 1:00 p.m. Viewings will be held at the Morgan North Stake Center on Friday, December 28, 2012, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:45-12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at the Milton Cemetary.
