BASMANN-TOWNSEND WEDDING SATURDAY,

An early wedding of Saturday which took place in the First Christian church united in marriage two well known young people of the city, Miss Harriet Townsend, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Townsend of Eastern avenue, and Alonzo Edward Basmann, son of Mrs. Fred Basmann of 3330 Grand avenue.

The ceremony was at 6:30 in the First Christian church, of which both the bride and groom are active members. Rev. R. D. Brown officiated. Only the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Townsend, and the mother and sister of the groom, Mrs. Basmann and Mrs. Otto Bornemann, were witnesses and the couple were unattended.

The bride wore a gown of white crepe and net with the white satin hat of an early fall model.

The wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride on Eastern avenue.

Mr. and Mrs. Basmann had kept the plans of their wedding so quiet only a few of the members of their immediate families knew the date of the ceremony and Mr. Basmann went to his work as usual after the breakfast. He holds an important position with the H. G. Hayes Construction company of this city and consequently could not leave until last evening, having charge of the pay envelopes of the men.

The young people accordingly planned to catch the Morning Star at Clinton for the river trip to St. Paul. They will be at home after Oct. 1 at 636 South avenue.

The bride is a graduate of the Davenport High school. She taught last year in the third grade at the Orphan's Home school and has at different times been a popular member of The Democrat's proof reading department.

Mr. Basmann was connected with the office staff at Iowa college, Ames, last year, resigning to take the position he now holds with the Hayes Construction company. Source: Newspaper 02 September 1916 (hand written at the top)
