Nellie Cassaidy Sowers (Obituary)

Nellie Cassaidy, youngest child of John and Mary Welch Cassaidy, was born near Bonaparte Feb. 11, 1895, and died at her home in Iowa City Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1953. After an extended illness. Her age was 58 years and six months. After going to the local schools Nellie attended the old Highland Park College in Des Moines and taught for a time in the public school at Keota, Iowa.

She was united in marriage April 6, 1920 with Mr. Bert Sowers, a veteran of World War I. He was a florist and they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where they owned a greenhouse. When they sold out they moved back to Iowa. Mrs. Sowers helped her husband through the years with his floral work.

Surviving are her husband and their daughter, Norma; two brothers James and Edward Cassaidy of Bonaparte; and three sisters Mrs. Margaret Miller of Des Moines, Mrs. Alice Watts of Arthur, and Mrs. Winifred Williamson of Bonaparte. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Iowa City. Funeral services were held at the church at 9 AM Saturday, with burial in Memory Gardens, Iowa City.
