Iowa County Native, Truman F. Slager, Dies in Michigan

Services for Truman F. Slager, 69, Iowa City, were at 10am, Monday, July 25, at the George L. Gay funeral home there. The Rev. Edward Heininger officiated. Slager died unexpectedly July 21, 1977, in a Carleton, Mich, hospital of a heart attack. Burial was in Memorial Gardens [Memory Gardens], Iowa City. Pallbearers were: Darel Wieland, Maurice Bender, George Swisher, Duane Petz, Charles Rohret, Daryle Schwartz all employees of Slager Appliance.

Born in Iowa County, Dec. 7, 1907, Truman Francis Slager was the son of Will and Anne Klever Slager. He received his education in the rural school and was a member of the 1927 Williamsburg high school graduating class.

He attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, one year and was the founder of Slager Appliance Company, Iowa City.

He was a member of the Congregational church and also the Masonic Lodge.

He married Rena Edwards, who died in 1970 and later to Geraldine Beatty Freers, who died in 1975.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. James C. (Joann Slager) Hanson, Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Wiley P. (Carolyn Slager) Klein, Denver, Colo., and a son, Gary F. Slager, Iowa City; nine grandchildren and one brother, Robert W. Slager, Swisher.
