An honor graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1963, she received her undergraduate degree from Hampton (Institute) University. She pursued post graduate studies at Old Dominion University.
Mrs. Branch was employed by the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) for 35 years. Her last posting was as the manager of the Chesapeake office.
Her community activities and professional affiliations included former member of the Chesapeake Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., she was initiated and maintained active membership in the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter, the Kiski Connection, Hampton University Alumni Association and the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security (IAPES). For several years, she served as the chief election officer for Norfolks Absentee Precinct.
She is survived by her husband, Milton, of the home; a son, M. Jay Branch and wife Marteesha and grandson, Jay Javari Branch of Norfolk; and a cousin, Richard Davenport and wife Adrianne of Raleigh, N.C. She will be missed by her many colleagues, friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hale Funeral Home. A wake will follow. The funeral will be held at noon Monday at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 1232 Chapel St., Norfolk. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery .
