Rebecca White Goodwin, of Roanoke, died at home on June 11, 2007, surrounded by friends and family after a yearlong fight with cancer. She was born March 26, 1944 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Ella Bartlett White of Roanoke and the late John Jewett White. She received her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and her Masters Degree in Music from Radford University. Surviving are her husband, Thompson West Goodwin of Roanoke; son, John Pendleton Goodwin and wife, Louise, of Falls Church; daughter, Page Brooke Goodwin of Charleston, South Carolina; sister, Judith White Luce and husband, Donald, of Severna Park, Maryland; sister-in-law, Fenton Goodwin Friend and husband, Peter, of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire; and three nieces and one nephew. Music was an integral part of her life and it was her calling. She has served as Choral Director at Cave Spring High School, former Dean of the American Guild of Organists, a member of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra board, organist at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Choir Director at St. John's Episcopal Church, and Minister of Music at Northminster Presbyterian Church.
