The Sutcliffe family lived in numerous places before settling in Agassiz, B.C., where Merlyn graduated high school. She moved to Kamloops to attend Nursing School at RIH. While at school she met and later married a local boy, Bob Bigham.
A class of 1955 nurse from Royal Inland, Kamloops.

They had four children which Merlyn mentored as much as raised
Kevin Bigham (Carol),
Joan Sivyer (Ken),
Gary Bigham (Michelle),
Jim Bigham (Doreen).
She was involved in youth softball, bowling, hockey and soccer.

Later she was the manager/assistant coach of Frank Rotas Village Hotel Ladies Fastball Club that is in the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame.

At the age of 50 Merlyn graduated from UBC with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then took the job as the 1st Administrator of the new Barrier Diagnostic & Treatment Centre. She finished with an Administrative Career in Osoyoos.

She returned to Kamloops and as an avid reader decided to open a used book store in downtown until she fully retired. In her retirement she spent time writing her famous "Letters To The Editor." Kamloops Daily News.
