William G. Bassett
DANSVILLE - William G. Bassett, 80, of Cumminsville passed away Friday morning, Oct. 10, 2008, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.
Bill was born in Perry, N.Y., on July 22, 1928, a son of the late Percy and Mary Jane (Mandeville) Bassett. On Dec. 24, 1949, he married Betty Gell Bassett, who survives.
Bill retired from Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in 1991, where he was employed as a welder. Throughout the years, he managed several area service stations, beginning with his mom and dad's business in Perry and the Minuteman Station in Dansville.
Surviving in addition to his dear wife of 59 years, Betty, are three sons: Gerald of Tallahassee, Fla., Paul of Wayland and Alex of Ossian; two daughters, Pat Comardo of Mt. Morris and Sandra Staheli of Ontario; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends called Tuesday 2-4 p.m. at Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held at 4 p.m. upon completion of the visitation. The Rev. James Stevens officiated. Interment will be at the family's convenience.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dansville Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 235 or the Dansville Fire Department, Franklin Street, both of Dansville, NY 14437. Online remembrances may be left at Hindle Funeral Home.com.
