Juanita was the wife of Searcy Preston Gardner. They met and were married around the small town of Dora, Alalbama to the northwest of Birmingham, Alabama around 1945. They moved to California and lived in or around the town of Sun Valley. Juanita also lived in San Fernando, California and Sylmar, California. Her fathers surname was Phillips, her mothers surname was Pittman. Juanita contracted Polio at the young age of 3 years old and used a brace or a crutch most of her life ultimately ending up in a wheel chair. She was advised by doctors not to have children due to her health condition. Going against the doctors advice Juanita gave birth to a son Ronald Preston Gardner. She learned to drive in her late 40's or early 50's using a specially equiped car after her husband Searcy's health declined and prevented him from driving. She had a fear that she would never be able to drive well, but never recieved a ticket nor was ever involved in any kind of traffic incident. During this time she also joyfully acted as a care giver and driver in her Plymouth Valiant which she referred to as her "Jitney" for her grand children, Mark and Adana whom she adored and they her as well. She worked at Singer-Librascope in Glendale, California until she could no longer work. She is survived by son Ronald P. Gardner, and wife Frances Gardner and her grandchildren Mark Preston Gardner, and Adana Loreen Gardner of Sun Valley, California.
