Deceased Name: Rosa Hawkins Stanley

Sister Rosa Hawkins Stanley was born on Oct. 24, 1925 to the union of Joseph and Mary Hawkins of Minden. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to New Light Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member.

Rosa went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Dec. 16, 2012 in Shreveport.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at New Light Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Friday, Dec. 21, 2012) from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Benevolent Funeral Home.

She entered into holy matrimony in 1946 to Noba Stanley and to this union Martha, Virgina and Nanette were born.

Sister Rosa loved her church and was a very active member. She served as a Sunday School teacher, BTU teacher, Mission President, Founder of NLB Young Matrons Ministry, officer of Northwest Louisiana 14th District Women Auxiliary, Treasurer of State Women Auxiliary, Founder of Rainbow Juvenile Organization and officer of Williams Chapter #173 Eastern Star.

Rosa retired from the Coca-Cola plant where she worked for many years. She was also a loving homemaker for many years. She loved cooking, gardening and maintaining a beautiful home for her family. Rosa nurtured many children and had a very loving and caring spirit.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Noba Stanley; parents, Joseph and Mary Hawkins; daughter, Carolyn Ann; sisters, Eula and Rossetta Hawkins; brother, Eugene Hawkins; stepson, Nobie Stanley; grandchildren, Kevin Williams and Lisa Key.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Martha (Johnny) Morris, Virginia (Roger) Stanley, Nanette (James) Watson, Tony (Delores) Stanley, Lawanda (Randy) Mayhorne and Mary Key; Godson, Jessie (Barbara) Cole; sisters, Dorothy Hamilton and Mary Grace Johnson; brother, Joe Hawkins; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
