Mr. Vail was born on Sept. 18, 1939, in Michigan to Walter W. and Jesse E. (Workman) Vail.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was retired as an over-the-road truck driver for Putnam Trucking, Effingham. He was a member of the American Legion, Effingham.
He is survived by his son, Les Vail; daughters, Pam LeCrone, Ann Bushue; brothers, Robert Vail, Ralph Vail, Kenneth Vail, Gary Vail, Darrell Vail; sisters, Virginia Holland, Evea Davidson, Mary Kienietz, Lois Smith; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Vail.
Funeral services were held at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with the Rev. Robert Tucker officiating.
Burial followed at Blue Point Baptist Church Cemetery, Shumway.
