JOSEPH CALVERT
Congerville -- The funeral of Joseph Wallace "Wally" Calvert, 86, of Congerville, formerly of Bloomington, will be at 11am Monday at Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington, the Rev Randy A Williams officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be 2 to 6pm today at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, with a Masonic service at 6pm. He died at 4:37pm Friday (Oct 4, 1996) at the Apostolic Christian Nursing Home, Eureka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centennial Christian Church, Apostolic Christian Nursing Home or Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association.
Survivors include his wife, Helen V Calvert, Congerville; one daughter, Leslie L. (Jim) Frizzell, 2303 Maysel Dr, Bloomington; one son, Joseph W Calvert, Jr, Congerville; one sister, Marge Smith, Normal; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas D. Calvert.
Mr Calvert was born Dec 5, 1909 at Dwight, the son of Alexander D and Margaret E Dunaway Calvert. He married Helen V Selders on Dec 5, 1928 at Cleveland OH.
He was a member of Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington, where he was an elder emeritus. He was a member of Bloomington Lodge 43 AF&AM and the Bloomington Scottish Rite Bodies.
Mr Calvert was an avid bicyclist and participated in the Pantagraph PACRACC ride for many years. He had worked as a switchman and general yardmaster for the GM&O and ICG railroads for 40 years retiring July 1, 1974.
He was also an avid horseman and outdoorsman.
