After graduating from college, she came to Winston-Salem to work in the Personnel Department of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. It was here, in Winston-Salem, that she met her future husband, Norman V. Stockton, Jr. They were wed on September 29, 1950, and remained happily married until he preceded her in death on April 17, 1997.
Until her health began to decline, Mrs. Stockton was a very active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she served on the Official Board, and was a Sunday school teacher, circle leader, and member of the Altar Guild. For many years, she was a volunteer at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, and was on the Board of Directors. During her time there, she cherished her friendships with the residents and staff. In addition to her community involvement, she filled her life with numerous hobbies and interests, including a great passion for tending to her flower garden, which was admired by many.
