Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Thursday, January 4, 1972:
   Charles Elmer Lane, 90, of 407 W. Union St. died at 9 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, where he had been a patient five days.
   Mr. Lane retired six years ago from farming. He was a life-long resident of Edwardsville.
   He was born July 14, 1881, in Edwardsville, a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth Lane. He was married to Anna Bilyeu on April 20, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. His wife survives.
   Also surviving are daughters Mrs. Everett (Verna) Turnbeaugh of Edwardsville, Mrs. Robert (Mabel) Vanausdoll of O'Fallon, and Mrs. Gordon (Fern) McClanahan of Portland, Ore., 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Two daughters, a son and a brother preceded him in death.
   Mr. Lane was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and of the Madison County Farm Bureau.
   Friends may call at the Weber Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, with Rev. Roger A. Zollars, pastor of the First Christian Church in Edwardsville, officiating.
   Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
